The Scramble for Africa was when European countries were trying to conquer Africa. It was called the scramble because many countries tried conquer Africa at the same time split it into different countries. European countries controlled alot of Africa were they imposed their laws. European ways and also separating friendly tribes and united enemy tribes.Countries who controled Africa included Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France.These countries were able to conquer Africa so easily because they had guns.

Matthew Perry had the japanese sign a trade treat. He arrived in ports with sails down to intimidate japan with technology.Perry wanted a trade between the united States and japan because he thought that japan was the ideal location to stablish a trade in which Americans ships could reload on food, coal and water. march 31, 1854 a treaty was signed between the United States and japan. This trade openned two ports which connected the U.S with Japan. During the Meiji era the Japanese economic changed. They were trying to modernize and industrialize.

Karl Marx and the Industrial Revolution

karal marx was a german philsopher woh was the father of comminusim.he was looking at the way people were beaing treated in factories and was horrified. Communism is a word formed for common people.

Marx died in 1883, but his ideas satyed. the new communist rulers didnt ues his ideas. he believed that workers would control government the rulers did not let that happen. In most Communist nations, the press was censored. They were not allowed to print news stories that criticized the government.

Robespierre and The Reign of Terror


After the French revolution change into democracy didn't happen right away.It did happen but first came the The Reign of Terror.

In this time the radical group Jacobin took control of France and started cutting of the heads of everybody who was connected to the old regime. Even if you were accused you could have your head cut off.
Then there was a huge power struggle and Maximilien Robespierre took control. He tried to wipe out the revolutionists.Then the people got pissed of at Maximilien Robespierre and arrested him and cut his head off. Then France settled down with democracy.

The French Revolution: Social Causes


There were many causes of The French Revolution. The biggest cause was the enlightenment thinkers who caused the third estate to think differently. the first estate was the clergy which owned most of the land and paid some of the taxes.the second class the nobles had a lot of land and paid no taxes.the third estate the presents had the most population but paid the highest taxes.
the presents saw what the enlightenment thinkers were doing and decided to do the same. seeing how unfair it was the peasants formed a group and took over the Bastille. and from there the french revolution took place.
